In some periods, they were almost completely isolationist in fear of being led astray by the often violent paths of other nations, while in other ages, they forged close ties with foreign governments in order to provide aid and help as many people as they could. Their culture valued both altruism and detachment from wealth and worldly affairs, and their relationship with the other nations varied between different eras. They were the most spiritual of all the cultures and lived in harmony with nature. They lived in large temples and travelled the world on flying bison. The Air Nomads were a peaceful race who were wiped out by the Fire Nation. Unlike the other nations, those born to the Air Nomads were, without any seen exception, all benders due to the high level of spirituality of their people. One of the four nations, the Air Nomads were wanderers by definition, but had four air temples, one located at each corner of the globe, found atop mountain ranges and under cliffs, in the northern Earth Kingdom and on three remote islands, all of which were hard for outsiders to reach. Obviously some of these times/outfits lasted much longer than the timeframes we included.Air Nomads is the collective term for the monastic order of men and women who practice the discipline of airbending and the pacifistic ethics of their theocratic society. Korra’s time (from the Harmonic Convergence in 171 AG when the airbenders re-emerged, to the end of the show in 174 AG) It extends back into Roku’s life as well, however, this is just an ESTIMATED timeline) This was prior to Aang’s birth in 12 BG so the timeframe isn’t specified to Aang’s particular era. Hanami’s time (ranging from her birth in 9,764 BG to the beginning of the story in 9,750 BG)Īang’s time (100 BG estimated to 0 AG, aka the time of the Air Nomad Genocide. Wan meets the airbenders one year prior to the Harmonic convergence in 9,830 BG and the Harmonic Convergence happens in 9,829 BG in canon) Wan’s time 9,830-9,829 BG (the timeframe Wan meets the proto-airbenders in the episode “Beginnings Part 2”. As a history major, I love comparing and contrasting historical clothing through the ages, so I decided to do the same with Hanami! Just a quick art exercise that got my brain working.
